WWF-Australia pays tribute to Felicity ‘Flic’ Wishart

WWF-Australia today expressed immense sadness over the passing of Australian Marine Conservation Society Great Barrier Reef campaign director Felicity ‘Flic’ Wishart.

Our deepest sympathies are with Flic’s family and friends and our colleagues at AMCS.

Flic was a leading Australian conservationist and a driving force in the Fight for the Reef campaign – the joint WWF/AMCS campaign against the reckless industrialisation of the Great Barrier Reef coast.

WWF feels immensely honoured to have worked alongside Flic in her last, greatest and yet unfinished campaign, to protect the Great Barrier Reef.

Flic helped to turn the plight of the Reef into the number one environmental issue in Australia and a matter of concern for people around the world.

Today, the Reef has a better chance thanks to Felicity.

Over the past 30 years, Flic also led seminal campaigns to protect rainforests, to stop land clearing in Queensland, to confront the threat of climate change and to protect the marine environment.

Flic was an important mentor and guide to countless young environmentalists, especially up-and-coming women across our movement.

At WWF we admired Flic for her warmth, humour, courage, intelligence, knowledge, passion, drive and tireless work ethic.

WWF will honour and draw upon Flic’s immense legacy – as inspiration for future campaigns to protect our natural heritage.
