ON World Oceans Day, June 8, Sea Shepherd Australia will proudly premier Jeedara, a documentary depicting Sea Shepherd’s Steve Irwin in defence of the Great Australian Bight from big oil.
Managing Director of Sea Shepherd Australia, Jeff Hansen, states: “After sellout shows around Australia, it’s now the United States’ chance to see truly one of the great natural wonders of the world, one of the Earth’s best kept secrets: the Great Australian Bight.
“This film is the story of the campaign that showcases one of the last big marine wilderness areas on Earth, one of the world’s most significant southern right whale nurseries, nature on a grand scale, and one of the big environmental wins of 2016,” Jeff said.
“Jeedara, the film, was recently entered into a number of international film festivals, and has already been selected as a finalist for the Hollywood Independent International Documentary Awards.
“The filmmakers have done an amazing job with this doco, however, the credit must also go to Mother Nature, for she is the real star in this documentary, as to me nature is the greatest and grandest show on earth, and it doesn’t get much bigger than the Great Australian Bight.
“Given most of the air that we breathe come from our oceans, no matter where you live on earth, what happens to our oceans anywhere affects us all.
“The Great Australian Bight is rich in biodiversity with numerous whale, dolphin, shark and fish species, it is part of our oceans critical life support systems and it’s my hope that audiences all over the world, grow to love the Bight and with that their resolve to protect it, especially with USA oil giant Chevron wanting to put the Bight at risk next.”
“We can think of no better date than June 8 – World Oceans Day – for the USA premier and tickets can be purchased here: http://tinyurl.com/opjfilmca.
“It’s very humbling and inspiring to see such wonderful, passionate, talented and caring people like Holly Combs (Charmed, Picket Fences), Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver, Stargate) and Cliff Simon (Stargate) creating time in their busy schedules to come and see this documentary in our fight to keep oil giants out of the Great Australian Bight.”
