FEDERAL Member for Melbourne, and Deputy Leader for the Greens Party, Mr Adam Bandt MP, was today announced as the first-ever Ambassador for The Advocate, a news and opinion website for Australia’s not-for-profits and charities.
The not-for-profit news website proudly promotes altruist campaigns from every not-for-profit and charity in Australia including World Vision Australia, CARE Australia, RESULTS International (Australia) and WaterAid.
“The Advocate amplifies the important work that Australians are doing to make our country and world a better place,” Mr Bandt said.
The Advocate freely promotes popular campaigns, such as Operation Icefish from Sea Shepherd Australia, and CARE Australia’s Walk in Her Shoes.
It was created by media professional Ryan Fritz, from Richmond, after he saw the need to provide a platform for competing press releases from the sector.
“At any given time there can be a deluge of press releases from not-for-profits and charities swamping news rooms across the country promoting World Cancer Day, World TB Day or a worthwhile awareness week,” Ryan said.
“The Advocate is designed to release some of that pressure on editors and journalists and provide smaller charities and NGOs the chance to have their stories heard,” he added.
It is also a bipartisan voice of the not-for-profit and charity sectors, commenting on such matters like the Federal Government’s planned foreign aid budget cuts in May and tentative plans to abolish the Australian Not-for-Profits & Charities Commission.
“At a time when Australian not-for-profits and charities are being threatened into silence by this government’s budget cuts, it is now more important than ever that their voices and stories reach the community,” Mr Bandt added.
“I’m proud that The Advocate is based in my electorate.”
