ALL that kept little Dara Cucos going through two years of cancer treatment was the promise of the puppy she would receive when it was done.
“It was the first thing she told me in the morning, and the last thing she talked about at night,” mum Doliana Cucos said.
When she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2014, the seven-year-old had to give up her family pet.
Even with her new pup Cocoa by her side, which she received following a bonemarrow transplant after a relapse, Dara continued dreaming about dogs.
After months of planning with Make-A-Wish Foundation volunteers, what awaited Dara and her family at a special event in Brunswick yesterday was the “ultimate puppy experience”.
Pets Haven Foundation supplied dozens of puppies for Dara to play with, with the event later opened to the public so the dogs could be adopted and puppy fashion parades could be held. “It’s the best day ever, ” Dara said.
