THE McGrath Foundation is proudly supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is encouraging supporters across Australia to ‘Pink Up’ this October.
“‘Pinking Up’ and hosting an event during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, allows us to reflect on the importance of breast health awareness and understanding – and is the perfect time to raise much needed funds to help us place McGrath Breast Care Nurses wherever they’re needed,” Tracy Bevan, McGrath Foundation Ambassador & Director, said.
“If you’ve not held a fundraising event in October, getting started is easy. We’ve created some easy to download resources and even put together some suggestions to help get the creativity flowing and remember we are here every step of the way to help out,” Tracy added.

Tracy is ecstatic for this new initiative that will not only see towns across the country awash with pink, but also create awareness around breast health and how the 110 existing McGrath Breast Care Nurses have supported more than 47,000 families since 2005.
“All funds raised by the community will go towards ensuring a McGrath Breast Care Nurse is available right across rural and metro Australia to help improve outcomes for people diagnosed with breast cancer by acting as a patient advocate, coordinating care, and ensuring their physical, psychological and emotional needs are met,” Tracy continued.
“A wonderful way to ‘Pink Up Your Town’ is to turn a major landmark or building in the community pink as a way of recognising the 44 people who are diagnosed with breast cancer every day and who would benefit from the dedicated support of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse,” she said.
The town of Mudgee, NSW, has already committed to the initiative during October and are planning to place pink lightbulbs in the windows of local businesses, community buildings and the town hall, as well as holding a large raffle fundraiser.
