Daniher tour to drive home the MND message

THE family of footy star and motor neurone disease fighter Neale Daniher today will join in his latest quest to tackle the disease with a 100-plus car convoy through regional Victoria.

A cast of past and present sports stars will join The Daniher Drive, a four-day tour aiming to raise $2 million for MND research.

Daniher will be flanked by his extended family for the tour leaving Essendon Fields at 8.30am for Wagga via Nagambie and Wangaratta.

“Even though it’s a terminal illness, one way we can stick it up MND is by continuing to enjoy life while we take the fight to MND,” he said. “And the drive is a lot of fun.’’

Daniher’s wife, Jan, said the former Essendon great and Melbourne coach filled her family with pride.

“It’s amazing how he can focus on this with what is happening to him at the moment,” she said.

“But he is really focused and so passionate about it.”

While The Big Freeze at the MCG is the main metropolitan fundraiser for MND research, the Daniher Drive is the big regional event. The tour takes in places such as Echuca, Corowa, Ballarat, Charlton and Deer Park.
